We spend so much time focusing on our own healthy food, it’s easy to forget about the crap that is in our furry friends’ food. Here’s a great example of the lies the front of a package can sell you. Yesterday at Target I spotted a product called “Buddy Biscuits”, which advertises their grain free cat treats (in fact, it says grain free 4 times on the front. We got it, no grain!). But you look at the ingredients… maple syrup? What the heck is THAT doing in there? Cats are carnivores, and don’t require any carbohydrates. I get that dry food and treats tend to have some sort of carbohydrate as filler, but this goes above and beyond that by putting a straight simple sugar in your cat’s bloodstream.
Don’t let buzzwords like “grain free”, no byproducts, or no artifical flavors sell you. Read the label of all the food coming into your house, whether it is made for humans or pets.
